What we cover

Focused support across the subjects students need most.

Every plan is built around the student — their current level, the pace that works for them, and the specific skills we're working to strengthen.

01

Math

Foundational arithmetic through pre-algebra. We focus on understanding the why behind each concept, not just memorizing steps.

02

Homework Support

Steady help working through current schoolwork, with attention to understanding the material rather than rushing through it.

03

Study Skills

Organization, planning, note-taking, and test preparation — the habits that make every other subject easier.

04

Confidence & Pace

A calm space to ask questions, slow down, and work through difficulty without pressure — often the missing ingredient.

About the tutor

A thoughtful, steady approach to learning.

I started Sakura Tutoring to provide thoughtful, personalized academic support for students who benefit from patience, structure, and encouragement.

I studied in Japan myself — including going through the junior-high entrance-exam process — and have tutored a student preparing for high-school entrance exams. That experience shapes how I teach: building real understanding, lasting confidence, and strong study habits, in a calm environment where students can work at their own pace.

I believe students do best when they feel comfortable asking questions and receiving clear, consistent guidance. That's the foundation everything else is built on.

How it works

A simple, unhurried way to begin.

Getting started doesn't have to feel like a big decision. We begin with a conversation, settle into a rhythm that works for your family, and adjust from there.

  1. Step 01

    Contact us

Send a short note through the contact form. Tell us a little about your child, their current learning situation, and what kind of support you are looking for.

  2. Step 02

    Trial lesson

A trial lesson gives your family a chance to experience the lesson style. We will look at fit, comfort, and the best direction for future study.

  3. Step 03

    First lesson

Based on what we noticed in the trial lesson, we begin regular lessons with clear priorities and a pace that feels manageable for your child.

  4. Step 04

    Steady growth

Through consistent sessions, we build Japanese reading, writing, vocabulary, and study habits over time. Lesson content can be adjusted as your child grows.

Sakura Tutoring works with students from kindergarten through 8th grade. Most of our work centers on elementary and middle school, where building strong fundamentals makes the biggest difference long-term.
Yes. Sessions are offered both in person (in the Chattanooga area) and online by appointment. We'll discuss which format fits your student best during our first conversation.
Yes — online lessons are scheduled around families in many time zones. Lessons are based in US Eastern Time, and we'll find a slot that works for your family, whether you're in North America, Europe, or Asia.
Most families find a weekly rhythm works well — frequent enough to keep momentum, with room to apply what we've worked on in between. Some students benefit from twice-weekly sessions during particularly busy stretches at school.
Sessions are typically 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the student's age and focus. Younger students often do best with slightly shorter sessions; older students can usually sustain a full hour comfortably.
Yes. For families planning a return to Japan, lessons can include preparation for re-entering Japanese schools and building fundamentals for junior-high and high-school entrance exams — including the returnee-student admission track. We'll shape the plan around your child's timeline and goals.
Rates depend on session length, format, and frequency. Please reach out through the contact form below and we'll share current pricing along with answers to anything else you'd like to know.
